Executive Leadership & Partners
Trip Chavis started his career with MFC in 1994 as a field forester, eventually organizing in 2014 with five other colleagues to purchase the company. Mr. Chavis is currently the CEO and handles day to day operations. He has extensive experience in GIS integration, large scale timber inventory design and project management. Mr. Chavis is a member of the Association of Consulting Foresters, The South Carolina Forestry Association and the Executives Association of Greater Columbia and is a Director for SC Chapter of Association of Consulting Foresters. Mr. Chavis earned a B.S. in Forest Resource Management from Clemson University in 1994.
Dave graduated from Clemson University in 1993 with a B.S. in Forest Management. He began working with Milliken Forestry in 1994, as a GIS Specialist and developed Milliken’s GIS Forestry services. Dave also developed Milliken’s Forestry Certification services and has experience with FSC, SFI and Tree Farm Certification systems. Dave has deep experience in timberland management across institutional, investment and private landowner holdings. Dave is a Registered Forester in SC, NC and GA and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Milliken Forestry Company.
John is a graduate of Clemson University, holding a B.S. degree in Forest Management and a M.S. degree in Forestry, with a minor in Civil Engineering (Remote Sensing).
The first half of his career was spent with a large international forest products company, with whom he worked in various positions related to environmental issues, sawmill technology, development and management of private landowner assistance programs, evaluations and implementation of forest leasing programs, wood procurement and transportation supporting paper mills and manufacturing facilities throughout the US, Canada and Europe.
The second half of his career has been with Milliken Forestry Company, during which time he has designed and implemented forest inventories, analyzed timberland and real estate investments and developed further education and experience as a Certified General Appraiser. His experience spans the entire southeastern United States as well as other regions.
John has developed proprietary growth, yield and income modeling techniques that are highly effective in the analysis and appraisal of both small and large timberland holdings. His appraisal experience includes lenders, estate planning, conflict resolution, partial or restricted ownership interests and other property rights, involving all types of properties including residential, commercial, recreational, conservation and other land uses.
John earned a B.S. and M.S. in Forest Resource Management from Clemson University. Employed by MFC since 1999, he specializes in bottomland hardwood management and intensive pine management. A registered forester in SC, NC and GA, John enjoys working with landowners to exceed their management goals and objectives. John is an active member of the Association of Consulting Foresters and is a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager.
Justin holds a B.S. in Forest Resource Management from Clemson University as well as a M.S. in Forest Resources from Clemson University.
Justin manages approximately 40,000 acres of forest land located throughout South Carolina. He has over 16 years of deep experience and knowledge in intensive timber management, timber valuation, forest soils and fertility, wetland delineation, forest inventory, herbicide application, wildlife and financial assessments, which he utilizes to accomplish the diverse objectives of landowners.
Justin has served for 13 years as Milliken Forestry’s liaison to the North Carolina State / Virginia Tech Forest Productivity Cooperative. He is a Registered Forester in SC. NC and GA and a member of the South Carolina Forestry Association and Society of American Foresters.
Warren earned a B.S. in Forest Resource Management from Clemson University in 1999, and has more than a decade of experience assisting private landowners. He has extensive knowledge in forest management and marketing timber. Warren is a member of the SC Tree Farm Committee, the Society of American Foresters, and the South Carolina Forestry Association. He is currently serving as the District 10 Chair on the SC Tree Farm committee and is the past Chairman of the Central Carolina chapter of the Society of American Foresters. Warren is a Registered Forester in SC, NC, GA and MD. He is a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager, registered Tree Farm inspector and holds State and Federal RCW Management Permits.
As a partner and forester, Warren is responsible for general forestry and support services for Milliken Forestry, as well as leadership and business development.
Rob earned his B.S. degree in Forest Management from Clemson University in 1979. Following three years as a self-employed consulting forester, he joined Milliken Forestry in 1982. With over 30 years at MFC, Rob has worked in nearly all phases of business to include timber marking, timber cruising, controlled burning, timber sales, reforestation and business development. As the team leader of a pension fund that consists of approximately 40,000 acres, he is responsible for budgets, timber sales, reforestation, timber security, aerial tract inspections, re-inventory, hunt club administration, database management and real estate (sale and purchase). Rob also manages approximately 6,000 acres of privately held timberland for long-time clients. Currently, he is broker-in-charge which consists of one in-house real estate agent and two independent agents.
Rob’s professional involvement includes Association of Consulting Foresters where he has served as Chair of SC Chapter, Southern Regional Director, Executive Committee member, SCACF emcee for spring and fall annual meetings, and Member of National Policy Task Force. As a member of Society of American Foresters, he has served as Chair of Central Carolina Chapter, Science and Technology Chair, and APSAF Meeting Planning Committee member. Rob is also a member of the SC Forestry Association and serves on the SFI Committee. He is a Registered Forester in SC and NC, a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager and a SC Licensed Real Estate Broker.
Rob enjoys being active in the field, helping timberland owners achieve their objectives, and mentoring young foresters in their careers.
Lamar earned an A.D. from Horry-Georgetown Technical College in 1974, and has more than thirty-eight (38+) years of experience assisting private landowners. He has extensive knowledge in forest management, wildlife management, land management, income projections, land analysis and timber analysis. He has specialized expertise in quail management, endangered species management and associated longleaf ecosystems. He actively manages approximately seventy thousand (70,000) acres of timberland.
Lamar is a member of Society of American Foresters, South Carolina Forestry Association, American Tree Farm System, Congaree Land Trust, Longleaf Alliance and Carolina Quail Association. Lamar currently serves as President Emeritus, and is a Registered Forester in SC and NC. He is a certified Red-cockaded Woodpecker manager holding Federal and State Endangered Species Permits and coordinates research, grant proposals, habitat management, mitigation and technical analysis on over two hundred seventeen (217) RCW clusters; these areas represent seventy-two percent (72%) of private lands enrolled in Safe Harbor in South Carolina. He is a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager and a registered Tree Farm Inspector.
Gordon earned a B.S. degree in Forest Management from Clemson University in 1980. He has over 33 years of forest and land management experience throughout South Carolina. His areas of expertise include pine and hardwood management utilizing fertilization, herbicides and improved seedling selection on large acreage tracts.
Gordon is a member of the Association of Consulting Foresters (ACF) where he currently serves as President. He is also a member of the Society of American Foresters and the South Carolina Forestry Association and represents the ACF on the SC SFI Committee. Gordon is a registered forester in South Carolina and a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager.
Gordon coordinates personnel scheduling and assists with managing and training the forestry staff. He manages over 50,000 acres in South Carolina.
Jerry earned an A.S. degree in Forest Management from Horry-Georgetown Technical College in 1974. He has more than forty-one (41+) years of experience performing all aspects of forest management, specializing in converting hardwood sites into productive pine plantations.
Jerry’s memberships include the South Carolina Forestry Association, South Carolina Biomass Council, and the Society of American Foresters. He is a Registered Forester in SC and NC, and is also a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager. He assists clients with decisions that relate to forestry and property management.
Angus is a Clemson graduate and has practiced as a Consulting Forester for five decades including 46 years with Milliken Forestry, where he served as President and Chairman. He has extensive experience and knowledge of forestry and land ownership in the Southeast.
He is a long standing member of the Association of Consulting Foresters of America, Society of America Foresters, past Chair of the South Carolina Forestry Association and Longleaf Alliance. He is a Registered Forester and licensed real estate agent.
Heath earned a B.S. in Forest Resource Management from Clemson University with a minor in Business in 2002, and has fifteen (15) years of experience assisting TIMO and private landowner clients. He has extensive knowledge developing management plans, projecting income, silvicultural techniques, herbicide applications, wildlife habitat enhancement, timber appraisals, land acquisitions, as well as marketing timber and reforestation.
Heath is a member of the Society of American Foresters (SAF), South Carolina Forestry Association and National Wild Turkey Federation. He is a SAF Certified Forester and Registered Forester in SC and NC. Heath is a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager and registered Tree Farm Inspector. He also has experience in GIS mapping with ESRI Arcview.
As a Consulting Forester, Heath’s primary responsibility is TIMO management and support services for the company, as well as leadership and business development. He also provides expertise to assist clients with decisions relating to rural property ownership and timber and wildlife management.
Brian earned his B.S. degree in Forest Resource Management from Clemson University in 1996. He started his career in forestry with Rogers’ Forestry and Wildlife Services helping private landowners achieve their timber and wildlife management objectives. Brian joined Milliken Forestry Company in 1998 working with private landowners and institutional investment properties across approximately 125,500± acres in NC, SC, GA, and AL. In 2015, Brian opened a new MFC regional office in the Lowcountry of South Carolina based out of Beaufort.
Drawing on two decades of experience, Brian works with his clients to maximizing the potential of their properties and goals. He provides a full array of services including complete timberland management, timber appraisals, timber growth and yield modeling, financial analyses, natural resource management plans, reforestation, chemical vegetation management, fertilization, American Tree Farm and FSC certification, GIS mapping, real estate services and prescribed burning.
Brian is a member of The Society of American Foresters and the South Carolina Forestry Association. He is a company representative to the NC State Tree Improvement Cooperative. He has served as Chapter Treasurer, Chapter Chair Elect, and Chapter Chair for The Society of American Foresters. He was awarded the “Young Forester Leadership Award” by the South Carolina Division of The Society of American Foresters in 2007. Brian is a Registered Forester in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. Additionally, he is a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager, Registered Tree Farm Inspector and Certified Vegetation Manager.
Gary is a 1999 graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Forest Resource Management. Gary joined Milliken Forestry in 1999, and worked with institutional investors, TIMO clients and MFC’s appraisal department before moving to the private landowner staff in 2005. Gary’s professional experience includes creating financially productive timber management plans for his clients while emphasizing wildlife habitat improvements and visual appeal. A licensed real estate agent since 2013, he develops marketing strategies for listed properties and continues to assist experienced and first-time investors in timberland acquisitions.
Andrew is a graduate of Horry-Georgetown Technical College and graduated Cum Laude from Clemson University in 2006.
He has thirteen years of experience in forest inventory and data management. He is also experienced in research implementation, data collection, and forest management. Andrew serves as a consultant for private landowners as well as investment firms.
Andrew is a registered forester in the State of South Carolina.
Billy holds an undergraduate degree in Finance and M.S. degree in Forest Resources from Clemson University. He has three years of forestry experience with Milliken private and industrial clients and is a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager.
Matt earned a B.S. in Forest Resource Management with a minor in Wildlife Management from Clemson University and joined Milliken Forestry Company as a forest consultant in 2014.
Matt currently works with timber investment management organization (TIMO) properties throughout South Carolina and North Carolina. His forestry skills include timber appraisals, reforestation, timber growth modeling, prescribed burning, and many other timberland management practices to achieve landowners’ goals. Matt is a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager and a registered Tree Farm Inspector.
Ben earned a M.S. in Forestry from the University of Tennessee and two B.A. degrees in Environmental Science and Spanish from Maryville College. Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Ben moved to the Palmetto State to begin his forestry career with Plum Creek Timber Company in Columbia, South Carolina. After gaining experience marketing and harvesting timber in the Midlands of South Carolina, Ben came to Milliken Forestry Company in 2016.
Ben’s experience in corporate land ownership is a valuable asset to his work at Milliken with timber investment management organizations in South Carolina. Ben’s primary responsibilities include harvest layout, timber cruising, and harvest management.
Wesley graduated from Horry-Georgetown Technical College as a Forest Technician and has been employed at Milliken Forestry Company for over 5 years. He is a skilled SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager and has a passion for forestry work and the outdoors.
Wesley helps land owners improve their lands by marking select trees for timber harvests and deploying controlled burns to improve wildlife habitat and timber quality. He is committed to helping landowners beautify their property and improve their investments.
Jordan joined Milliken Forestry in 2016. He holds a B.S. in Forest Resource Management with a minor in Wildlife Management from Clemson University. His previous experience includes prescribed burning and utility vegetation management. Jordan helps private and corporate land owners improve their investments.
Jordan is a Registered Forester in North and South Carolina, as well as a Certified Arborist.
Darrel holds a B.S. degree in Forestry from the University of Vermont with a focus on forest business and trade. Darrel has worked for the Virginia Department of Forestry and a private forestry consulting firm, Borealis, LLC; he also worked as Executive Director of the National Woodland Owners Association in Washington, DC and Southeast Regional Manager of the Forest Stewardship Council – US.
Darrel currently manages MFC’s forest and supply chain certification activities, including a portfolio of client projects. Darrel offers clients related specialties like policy development and analysis, technical communications and training, and innovative forest and watershed conservation projects.
Darrel is a member of the Society of American Foresters and the Forest Stewards Guild.
Monica is an ecologist, conservation planner, and wetland mitigation expert with 25 years of experience. She earned a Ph. D. degree in Zoology and Wildlife Ecology from Southern Illinois University in 1991, an M.S. degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management from Purdue University in 1987, and a B.S. degree in Wildlife Management from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in 1985. Trained in wildlife ecology and management with a specialty in endangered species conservation, her experience includes wetland mitigation bank development, management planning, ecosystem monitoring and leadership of a long-term ecological research program for The Nature Conservancy.
Dr. Folk has managed endangered species projects in Florida and throughout the Southeast, working with red-cockaded woodpeckers (RCWs), Florida scrub-jays, wood storks, gopher tortoises, bald eagles, Florida sandhill cranes, wading birds and several bat species. She has permitted and supervised implementation of a number of mitigation banks. Recent projects include RCW cavity tree surveys on Ft. Bragg, three large South Carolina plantations, and several Florida natural areas; RCW foraging habitat analyses on several Florida wildlife management areas; permitting and construction of a 200-acre wetland bank in South Carolina; banding and monitoring of all Florida scrub-jays in Indian River County, FL; all monitoring, cavity management, translocations, population analyses and reporting for RCW populations on Picayune Strand State Forest and Orange County’s TM Ranch in Florida; and monitoring of wildlife mitigation areas for a large planned development in Marion County, Florida.
Andrew graduated in 2012 with Bachelor’s degree from Columbia College with an emphasis on sociological, psychological, and anthropological trends and adaptations throughout history. Andrew provided paralegal services for various law offices for approximately 5 years before joining Milliken Forestry. He currently specializes in research and information preparation with a focus on the housing market, timber trends, economic findings, and appraisal data.
Clayton has an A.D. in Forestry Technology from Jones County Junior College and a B.S. in Geography with an emphasis in Geographic Information Technology from the University of Southern Mississippi. Clayton joined Milliken in 2012, and oversees geospatial data and map production for all of Milliken’s clients. He specializes in database management using ESRI’s ArcGIS software, including ArcGIS for Desktop, ArcGIS for Server and ArcGIS Online.
Kylie earned a B.S. and Masters in Forest Resource Management with an emphasis in Geographic Information Systems and a minor in Business Administration from Clemson University.
Kylie administers map production for Milliken’s clients and also works with MFC’s certification services, which entails certification through Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and American Tree Farm System (ATFS).
Kylie is a member of the Society of American Foresters (SAF), National Wild Turkey Federation, and Ducks Unlimited. She is a QDMA Deer Steward 1 and a registered Tree Farm Inspector.
Tonya is Vice President of Administration and Human Resources and has been with Milliken Forestry Company, Inc. since 1999. Based in Columbia, South Carolina, Tonya has over twenty-five (25) years of combined experience in accounting, records administration, insurance and retirement administration, employee benefits and personnel as well as office management. She is also a Notary Public for the State of South Carolina and holds several certifications in Human Resources and Accounting.
Lia earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Organizational Management from Allen University in 2012.
Lia joined Milliken Forestry Company in 2013 as an administrative assistant. Lia skillfully prepares and proofreads invoices, timber sale advertisements, contracts and company reports. She provides timely, efficient, and accurate support to managers and colleagues, and is dedicated to excellence in customer service.
Joy graduated from the University of South Carolina – Darla Moore School of Business with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and a major in Accounting. In 2011, she joined Milliken Forestry. Joy’s prior experience includes financial accounting, financial reporting, policies and procedures, purchasing, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable and general bookkeeping.
Joy’s work for Milliken includes TIMO administration as well as private landowner administration, and she is a Notary Public for the State of South Carolina.
Real Estate Sales
Hale attended the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina and graduated with degrees in Real Estate Finance and Business Management. As a Low Country native, his passion for the outdoors revolves around fishing and hunting. He now resides in Columbia, but on the weekends you can catch him in saltwater estuaries or in the woods of Williamsburg County.
Hale helps buyers and sellers of forest and farmland achieve their real estate goals.
Billy received a B.S. degree from Clemson University in 1975, and a M.S. degree in wildlife biology in 1978. He started working for the SCDNR in 1978, where he created the Small Game Program to work with private landowners to improve their land for small game animals such as the bobwhite quail. He was honored as the first recipient of the Havilah Babcock Award for Excellence in bobwhite quail management. He held various titles with the SCDNR including director of legislative services and retired as Deputy Director of the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division.
Upon his retirement, he worked as a private consultant and then received his real estate license, and has been selling real estate for three years. He enjoys selling recreational property and helping potential landowners find the property best suited to meet their goals.
Billy is a certified wildlife biologist and is the Past President of the South Carolina Chapter of the Wildlife Society.
